The Pi Community Art Project was a 14-month research project devised by Manners, Berry to document through aerial film and photography the production of a large-scale land art piece; with the support and participation of the community.

Conceptual Artist Paul Manners was the primary artist of this project. It was his idea to draw circle around the heart of Southend, as a Community Art Project where the participant would not only be a part of the art but also the artists.

The drawing was an 8.33 mile circle, performed in light; where the historic and iconic Southend Pier would form the radius of the circle.

To achieve the project I was charged with mustering as many people as possible from the local community to perform the circle which would on evening Saturday 12th April 2008 be documented from the air by the artists.

As Project Manager I was engaged by Manners & Berry to spear-head and deliver the project for the artists and to the community. My responsibilities included:
  • To arrange and coordinate the logistics for the project including:
    • Project Administration
    • Community Out-Reach
    • Design & Maintenance of the Pi Project web site
    • To arrange the media publicity and design Printed Media Advertising
    • Liaise with the local authority & Community Groups
    • Secure sponsorship to fund the project
    • Document the development of the project & artist statements
    • Liaise with the media and act as spokesperson for the project.
